The Owners Manual shows 15 hr oil change intervals. Some guys do just a drain (no filters/screens) at 15, then 500 EXC, RC8, KTM 690, 790, 990, 1190, 1290. KTM I've owned a KTM 990 Adventure and two 950 Super Enduros, and a 640 Adventure, along with several 690s and a 525 EXC. The 21" front does tend to drift. more under high cornering loads on pavement on the heavy bikes. It will also lock up sooner under very hard braking than a 19" front will. The only two major PITA’s are-. 1) The silver tab/ button on the hydraulic style fuel coupler (that contains the fuel screen) is positioned facing the air box so it’s hard to get to. I used a small but long screwdriver to reach in and depress the tab, uncoupling the fitting. 2) The very small screw that holds the metal/ rubber fuel line Like many liquid-cooled KTM motorcycles, the maintenance schedule intervals for the 890 Adventure R are 15 000 km (9 300 mi) or annually, with a major service (valve service & new plugs) every two intervals (every 18 600 miles or 30 000 km, but with no time interval). Optimal temperature with Powersynt seems to be around 17-23 degrees celsius. When going near 30 it starts to behave poorly, or so I've come to think.. mostly rough idling and shifting. I'm going to adhere to the manuals 7500 km interval.
9. Remove the 3 bolts that retain the cartridge oil filter cover. Pull the brake pedal down and pull the cover away. Depending on brake adjustment, I have heard that it may be necessary to remove the brake pedal for improved access to the filter cover. Remove the cartridge filter and allow the cavity to drain.
I just bought a KTM 690 with recommended OCI's at 6000 miles, same for the air filter. ? Of course they also recommend a $20 a liter magic elixir. I'll use a $8 a quart oil that fully meets their stated specs at likely 1500-3000 mile intervals, depending on what I learn over time. Oil change at 7.5hrs engine side, 15hrs gearbox side (split system 530) with filter every other engine oil change, so every 15hrs (small capacity on engine oil on these bikes) If l had a later bike, l would do oil at 15hrs and filter every other change - so filter every 30hrs. rs8HxP.
