Renown gain from battles is based on the likeliness of winning so fight some battles with a smaller but effective force, like a small group of heavy cavalry, and take on larger groups. You get more renown if the odds are bad. Just have 15 calvalry and 10 horse archers and run around the map. either get the duelist perk for 6 renown per tourney

Well people, the renown loss is quite obvious why it's there, the renown is to show how "known" a person is, so ofcourse it decrease over time if you do not have a steady income of renown, trust me, I'm at around 2000 renown and I fight day in and day out with just my companions against groups of bandits in the 35-50 size

Thank you very much for the answers! I'm guessing joining a faction is based on renown. Get enough and you'll be allowed to talk to the nobles, get some more and they'll let you join. If you press N in game you get an encyclopedia. There you have a "Kingdoms" tab. Click the kingdoms to see their diplomacy. #1.
If you are already tier 2, get a decent amount of money, a mid tier party of 40-50. now declare war on a faction, I would not recommend khuzait, they have fast movement on campaign map. your mid tier party should decently beat any other troops at the same size. this should yield more renown as well as a ton of money. you don't even have to open

Here’s our mini-guide Put 2 points in shields and 2 points in pathfinding and 1-2 points in training. This allows you to block arrows, avoid bandits and level up the farmers. Set the difficulty on lance to manual (hard) and equip him with 2 shields, a sword and a spear/lance. Riding around and taking enemies with the spear/lance is an easy way to stay alive.
