PhD student here - I don’t think the 12.9 is too big, and it’s definitely very comfy if you want to draw. How heavy it gets depends on what case you get for it, if you want to use it handheld a lot, make sure you don’t get a case that’s too heavy. I absolutely love the screen size and I don’t mind carrying it around at all.

However, 50% brightness is usually pretty good unless you’re in direct sunlight which saves quite a bit of battery.
Best affordable : 9th gen iPad. Decent every thing and I don’t know what 120hz mean: iPad Air. Want the face ID and 120hz but 12.9 is too big: iPad Pro 11 inch. Want the biggest and the best : iPad Pro 12.9. Reading (books/mangas) and compact usage : iPad mini.
The 11" Pro is probably more than enough for your needs. Many people genuinely prefer 11" over 12.9" because it's a heck of a lot more portable. You can draw and read books on the 11" model while holding it - good luck doing that with 12.9". When you're traveling, the 11" model fits into carry-ons much more neatly.

Otherwise, the 11' iPad Pro is the right choice. It's amazing to read, it's amazing to note taking (you will always have to zoom in and zoom out, even with the 12.9 model) and is ultra portable, super comfortable to handle and read while lying on bed or sitting on a couch. If you have a computer (especially a MacBook) and your plan is to use
Reasons to buy the 11-inch iPad Pro (5th gen) Familiar dimensions (similar to traditional iPad) More portable: 9.74″ x 7.02″ x 0.23″. Lighter weight: 1.03 pounds (Wi-Fi) Cost-effective compared to the 12.9″ model. Suitable for sketching and drawing. Easier to hold and use on-the-go.
Pro 11”. Versatile as all hell. I’ve used and appreciated both, but the 11” form factor is just more portable, and that, for me, makes it more useful. 4. clichekiller. • 2 yr. ago. I used my 12.9” iPad Pro for school all the time, especially in calculus. I found the larger screen to be very worth it.
I can see why the 12.9 is more appealing. I just sold my 12.9” and got an 11”. I loved the 12.9 for drawing and designing, but for some reason I found the blooming at night really bothered me. So far I find myself using my new iPad for more things whereas the 12.9 was almost exclusively a drawing tablet.
